The last post to the site was all about a walk up Mt. Wilson, part of the San Gabriel range behind Pasadena.
This is is another walk, but a different bit of the world.
We took a short trip the the Lower Engadine, a valley in eastern Switzerland, close to the Austrian and Italian boarders. The scenery offers a bit of a contrast...
An early morning start:
Dry stone walls are wonder to look at and try to figure out, beautiful too...
Looking back down the Val Tuoi...
The mists never really cleared all day...
Almost at the head of the valley, the stream is La Clozza. I suspect trout might be findable...
The Swiss Alpine Club (CAS) maintains 153 alpine refuges, most with a dormatory and some with rooms, for climbers, hikers and skiers in the winter. Nearly all can provide a simple meal and some even offer a shower (extra charge).
This is Chamonna Tuoi CAS. I had a chat with the guardian, who served up a bowl of good soup, some bread and a suasage. She suggested a worthwhile onward walk would get me to the Blue Lake, but "Watch out, if you get lost you might end up in Austria!" (actuallly, just over the ridge behind the hut)...
Over hill...
Over dale...
Though the trail gets a bit scant in some places...
The Blau Lai. Worth the walk...
Heading back down to Guarda, the village where the walk started. Some rain across the valley...
Cheese made here...
The view back down into the Lower Engadine valley...
Back to the village, the end of a good days walk.
A total of about 12 miles and a maximum elevation of around 8,600 feet above sea level.
